2ND ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER SEMINAR “TOWARDS THE EUROPEAN ENERGY UNION” IN BRUSSELS
The Second Annual Stakeholder Seminar “Towards the European Energy Union” was held in Brussels on 20 May 2015 at the premises of the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU, with the participation of almost 100 experts mostly from Danube countries.
The aim of the event organized by the coordinating countries of the Priority Area 2 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region was to present a detailed analysis on the potential the Energy Union concept could bring for the Danube countries – based on the studies elaborated by the Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research (REKK), as well as the Center for Energy Studies and the Institute of Energy Economics – and to provide a discussion forum thereof.
Following the opening remarks by the Ambassadors, Mr Jakub Dürr, Mr Olivér Várhelyi, Mr Pál Ságvári, and the director of the Energy Community, Mr Dirk Buschle, Mr István Joó, Ministerial Commissioner for the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region had the pleasure to invite Mr Dominique Ristori, Director General of DG ENERGY to give his keynote speech on the most recent progress made towards the adoption of key measures of the largely endorsed Energy Union concept.
In the course of the panel discussions focusing on energy security, market integration and decarbonisation, participants also had the opportunity to receive up-to-date information from the European Commission and leading experts of the energy field and also to identify potential common benefit from the Energy Union concept in order to establish synergies despite diverse needs of the Danube countries.
