On 5th October 2023, the ‘Sustainable Energy’ Priority Area (PA2) of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region together with the Professional Association of Hungarian District Heating Suppliers (MATÁSzSz) organized a workshop in Zagreb in the topic of the decarbonisation of district heating systems.
The aim of the workshop was to present the Hungarian experiences in the use of geothermal energy for district heating and the available funding instruments for the decarbonization of the district heating systems. The participants were mainly Croatian and Hungarian energy companies.
The event was opened by Ambassador Dr. Csaba Demcsák, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the event and the topic, then the Deputy State Secretary of the local Ministry of Energy, Kristina Čelić presented Croatia’s current energy and district heating strategy. Annamária Nádor, the PA2 area coordinator, introduced the available financing opportunities, then Edit Nagy, the representant of MATÁSzSz presented how their member companies can contribute to geothermal developments.
At the end of the event, Croatian and Hungarian companies had the opportunity to discuss at B2B meetings the possible fields of cooperation.
The workshop was moderated by Dávid Kecskeméti from MATÁSzSz, and also member of the Danube Youth Council.
Another event in this topic will be organized in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 October 2023.
