THE HUNGARIAN COORDINATION HOSTED THE 10THSTEERING GROUP MEETING OF THE ENERGY PRIORITY AREA IN BRUSSELS ON 19TH MAY 2015
In his opening speech, Ministerial Commissioner and Hungarian National Coordinator Mr István Joó had the pleasure to present the new Hungarian Priority Area Coordinator, Head of Department Pál Ságvári as the successor of Ambassador Anita Orbán and to briefly remind members of the Steering Group to the achievements of PA2 under the coordination of Ms Orban. Among the most recent developments Mr Joó underlined the importance of the meeting of the Danube Region foreign ministers and ministers responsible for the implementation of the Strategy earlier in May 2015 in Brussels in order to discuss the implementation of the EUSDR and its achievements so far. After welcoming the new Hungarian Priority Area Coordinator, Czech Executive National Coordinator Ms Eliška Gerthnerová underlined that EUSDR is at the crossroads and PA2 is a living example of reconciling both project oriented and strategic approach. Ms Markéta Ročejdlová, as the new Czech Priority Area Coordinator, expressed her hope for an even more successful new chapter bearing in mind all new challenges. The Chief Advisor to the Hungarian Priority Area Coordinator, Mr Szilárd Árvay outlined the achievements and developments happened since the last SG Meeting in December 2014 which has been complemented by Ms Markéta Ročejdlová, the Czech Priority Area Coordinator, who summarized the activities of the Czech coordination. Afterwards the floor was given to guests from the European Commission.
Mr. Ádám Szolyák from the European Commission (DG for Energy) presented the latest developments and current state of play in the North-South Interconnections (NSI) East, to be followed by Mr. Marco Onida, team leader and Ms. Ann-Jasmin Krabatsch from the European Commission (DG Regional and Urban Policy), who acknowledged the presented activities of the priority area, gave update on current developments regarding the governance of the Strategy, and also touched upon the upcoming Annual Forum hosted in Ulm on the 29-30th October 2015. Before Mr Johannes Jung gave a deeper insight in the preparation process for the Annual Forum and the establishment of the new governing body (Danube Strategy Point), four studies were presented to the members of the Steering Group as a preparatory step for the Stakeholder Seminar “Towards the European Energy Union”. The studies in the subject of security of supply, market integration and decarbonisation were introduced by Mr Péter Kaderják, director of the Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research and Mr Daniel Měsíc, energy expert of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. Later on Mr Árvay and Ms Ročejdlová summarized the results the PA2 projects already in the pipeline (Danubiom, DanReGeotherm, RECROS).
In the afternoon session members of the Steering Group had the pleasure to be presented a general overview of the launch of the third macro-regional strategy, the EU Strategy for Adriatic and Ionian Region by Ms Biljana RAMIĆ and a brief update on the second calls to be launched in the frame of START II and TAF-DRP II by Ms Ročejdlová. At the end of the day, the managing director of Mannvit Kft. Sigurdur Larus Holm reminded the audience of the success of the NER300 project that was supported by the Steering Group of PA2 in 2007, and has drawn the attention of the Steering Group to the enhanced geothermal system (EGS) project which was submitted to the EU Horizon 2020 Programme earlier in May 2015.
