The 3rd Annual Stakeholder Seminar “LNG – Dream or Reality for the Danube Region?” was held in Brussels on 26 May 2016 at the premises of the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU, with the participation of nearly 100 experts mostly from Danube countries.
The aim of the event organized by the coordinating countries of the Priority Area 2 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region was to present a detailed analysis on the potential of the LNG Strategy for the Danube countries – based on the study elaborated by the Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research (REKK) – and to provide a discussion forum thereof.
The opening remarks by the Ambassadors, Mr Jakub Dürr, Mr Tibor Stelbaczky and the keynote speeches of the Deputy Director-General of DG ENERGY, Mr Christopher Jones and Deputy State Secretary for Energy, Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár were followed by three sessions to discuss (1) how the Danube Region could be integrated to the global gas market by gaining access to the LNG sources, (2) to determine the key drivers (tariff, well-defined infrastructure projects, regulatory measures, interconnections, etc.) that could further attract the involvement of the private sector in LNG projects as well as (3) to present LNG as an alternative energy source for transportation.
