INVITATION TO THE 5TH STAKEHOLDER SEMINAR OF EUSDR PA2
It is our pleasure to inform you that the Sustainable Energy Priority Area (PA2) of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) organises its 5th Stakeholder Seminar, entitled ‘Green transportation in the Danube Region’’, which will be held on the 5th December 2018 in Budapest.
The event is jointly organised by the Czech Republic and Hungary, coordinating countries of the Priority Area.
Promoting sustainable energy use in the transport sector of the Danube Region
– Towards a uniform policy assessment methodology
Transportation is the only sector among the major greenhouse gas emission sources, which increases its emission (by 18% between 1990 and 2016). The trends are even unfavourable in the Danube Region, where the transport related emission grew by 48% in this period (without Germany and Ukraine), due to economic development, the transit role of Region and the increasing dominance of the diesel-fuelled road transportation.
The aim of the Stakeholder Seminar is to present a study focusing on the international freight transportation, where decarbonisation policies, such as infrastructure investments, financial incentives and regulatory constraints can promote the use of sustainable energy with two different but complementary approaches: incentivising the use of alternative fuels in road transportation, and diverting the road transportation into less carbon intensive modes, such as rail.
The objective of the study is to facilitate the development of a uniform methodological framework to assess policy measures promoting sustainable energy use in the sector. In order to do so, we (i) give on overview of the transport sector of the Danube Region and the potential policy measures to promote sustainable energy; (ii) expound the methodological issues of policy assessment in the transport sector, with special focus on modelling tools, and (iii) present an illustrative assessment for the external effects of two above mentioned policy approach.
On the Stakeholder Seminar besides that the study will be presented, interesting panel discussions will take place with the participation of international experts.
The study can be downloaded from HERE.
